PUNISHMENT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.

Following il public inquiry into 1 allegations against tho teacher of tho College-street school, the School Copiimittee to-night made the following recommendations for submission to | tho Education Board: That any pun- ' ishment exceeding four strokes with a I strap be given in the presence of the head teacher, and that the offence nnd punishment bo entered in theschool log; that assistants shall not * be allowed to punish pupib.i unlos? in their class, unless such assistant have charge; that playground punishment should consist either of strapping p>r detention and an imposition; and that no punishment of a ridicunlmis character should be allowed. It was also resolved that tho inquiry showed that tho management generally of the school was praeically all that could be desired.
