MONTHLY MEETING. The following business was transacted by the Waimea County Council yesterday afternoon: — CORRESPONDENCE. The X.Z. Insurauee Company offered their premises in Trafalgar-street to the Council for £52 a year, for a term of 5 or 7 yenrs < and agreed to put in a strong room on the first floor at a cost of £142. — The Council decided to take the buildings for a term of seven years. The Public Works Department notified the formal declaration of a diversion of a small portion, of the road in block vii., Tadmor Survey District. The Auckland City Council requested the Council to co-operate in an endeavour to secure an amendment of the Jaw which provides that ail sinking funds of local bodies shall bo vestod in the Public Trustee. — Resolved that no action be taken. The Secretary to the Nel.*on lMue.iUifn Bonrd asked the Council o ««:- dorse a proposal to establish an ngricnltuT.il experimental station in the Xclson district. A copy of a report on the subject by Mr James Bruce Instructor in Agriculture to the Board, was also forwarded. — Cr. llcult moved that no action be taken. —Of.'. Gill was strongly in favour of Buch a station. It was just the- thing the farmer wanted. — Cr. Macmahon thought there was a great deal to learn from such a station. To have manures and soils tested would be of great benefit to the farmer. He woud like the matter adjourned for a month for further information as to cost to be obtained. lie moved to this effect. — Cr. Everett seconded, bui considered that while many cmi!d sec what would 1 do bost in the respective disiiicts. there was much to learn with regard to the manUTes required.. He vas in favour of technical instruction, but was opposed to an experimental station. Technical -chools, he thought, were the chiet requirement. — Cr. Hoult agreed with Cr. Krerett's remarks. — Tt was resolved to postpone further consideration for a month. The Valuation Department requested the Council to appoint a repie.sentativ,e of the Council to act as a member of the Afvcssmeut Court, the Department being now engaged in a revaluation of the County. — It was resolved to ask Mr Thomas Paftie to net. and failing him, Mr Thos. Hunt. — Tt was further resolved to endeavour to obtain information as to the relative values it was proposed to put on the properties in the various ridings, in order that the Council could make objections if so desired. Everett also complained that a list of polling places in the Motueka District had been advertised before it was known that there would be an election. He moved that the attention of the memhers for the district be callod to. tin. large unneppssary expenditure incurred in advertising in connection with Lieen sing Committee elections. — Carried. Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co. wrote stating that they were legally advised of their position in regard to their Graham property. Seeing tjiat the Council was obtaining rates from the writers' and other properties adjoining the Grahim track, the Council was given notice that' it would be held responsible for any loss incurred while driving stock through th.o Qy;tham property. — Rer.ci ved, Mosses Maginnity and Son forwarded a statement uf the time occupied by Mr JB'elJowes on work in i'igeon Valley stream, and in ciuiiintion with which a claim had Ueen made on the Council. The time amounted to 57 days — The Kjigi-ii'cj said that the work "for which ilr i'i-1---lowo:' was claiming was altogether apart from the work which the Council agreed to contribute to.— Resolved that l li« Council decline to pay anvtiling to Mr .Fellowes. Cropp, Wai-iti, made a cumpluiut re the fencing on Mrs Cropp V section. Maitlands, Stoke, Council's employees having taken up the front fence. — No action taken, Owners and occupiers of laud abutting on the Moutere mudflat afked tho Council to arrange for the expouditure of £150, Government grant, on an extension of the road to their properties.— Resolved to accede to ll.e ivo,nesl on the nsnM conditions.
