Black and Son, have recently returned to Nelson, and notify that they have opened in business 'in Hardy-street as linen drapers. They have gained experience in other cities of New Zealand, and they announce that as linen drapers they intend paying particular atention to Man. Chester and household linen goods, and also that their stock has been imported direct and that the goods have freshness, displaying care and knowledge in selection. A sample of the onions grown on the school ground at Takaka nre at present on view at Mr Smallbohe's shop, in Hardy-street. The onions, three in number, weigh 6 lbs., and were picked from the collection exhibited by tho school at the Takaka Agricultural Show on February Ist. Jones was fined Is. with costs 7s, for allowing a horse to be at largo in Halifax street on February 7th. Defendant asked that the case bo dismissed, for the reason that the ranger had made no demand for payment at the time the horse was taken to the defendant ' 9 stables. He said 1 that the horse had been turned into his paddock adjoining the Post Office, and as the fence along the Halifaxstreet frontage had recently been removed, the horse may have got on to the road; but it was there not more than a minute or two. He was looking after the horse, when Colonel Joyce came along, and as one of the defendant's horses had been injured while employed by the H Battery he took the Colonel into the stables to have a look at tho injured animal.
