CORRESPONDENCE.
A LIGHT AT TERAWHITI. :. TO THE EDITOR. I Sir.— ln your issue of the 2nd inst., - "Seafarer" points out that the Minister, . Mr .1. A. Millar, was off his course when l hf Maud that a light was not required i at Terawhiti, that already three light?, were plainly visible at one. time in Ciic.k i Strait- . This, is a well-known fact. Th.-' i- lights are a3 follows: The PS-others, • Cape; Campbell, and Pencarrow "Se.iI faivr" must be "very much a', sea" -.vli.-ii he sugJesU that the IWvr.iMer ! . nonld mean th.it such lights as Farewell i Spit, Stephen's Island. The B;cu-trr, - and Pc-iuaiTow, could all be sr-fn at the I en,' lime. No doubt a light at T..n<<uf> I Point would increase the danger to slupt pin.' As the coast is a dangerous one, ■ no inducement should be given to masi ters to approach it to look for a light : in . thick weather, when they have 25 miles r of sea-room between Tongue Point and , the South Island. The present lights in .■ Cook's Straits are a credit to the Uet partment. But a lighthouse at Jackson s l Head is badly needed. I am, etc., FELIX TANEK. Wafcfield," March 3, 1909.' t
