THE FRENCH CUSTOMS TARIFF.
EFFECT ON BRITISH TRADE. [Press Association. — Copyeioht.] PARIS, Thursday. The French Customs Committee declares that 87 per cent of the value of British exports to France will not be affected by the projected revision of the tariff, except where the duties are lowered, while the average surcharge on British trade will be scarcely one half per centum. LONDON, Thursday. In the House of Commons Mr Winston Churchill, President of the Board of Trade, informed Mr J. Collings that obervations had been invited from the principal Chambers of Commerce and Trade Associations of tha United Kingdom concerning the probable effect of the revised French tariff. He added that it was undesirable at present to make a statement regarding any further action which might bo found expedient or practicable, but the matter was receiving the most earnest attention of th* Government.
