AWARDS FOR BRAVERY. rUraxED Pbess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH,. Saturday. Ths oyal Humane Society met yesterday. A letter of commendation was awarded to Alfred W. Paget for rescuin ga man from drowning at Auckland on December 27, 1907. Certificates were granted to John Proud (Auckland), William Jones (Napier), Constable Clark ! (Auckland), Constable W. R. Reynolds (Picton), a framed certificate to Mrs Hai raraka Lemepara (Tologa Bay), for resi cuing or attempting to rescue persons from drowning. Silver medals were awarded to William John Munro, who ; rescued a man from' a whirlpool in the i Tauherenikau river on January 12th, I 1903; to Douglas Hamilton, who rescued a woman .from drowning in -the roadstead at Gisborne, being m great danger of being crushed between two steamers in the open roadstead ; AlTred E. Bates, for attempting to rescue a man drowning in a heavy sea at the Catlins bar on August 17,1908'; a.ajlvev medal and a framed certificate were awarded to Reginald. Tuck, who. saved a woman from drowning in a' istreamy ' near-Hanarama Springs, Tuck swain underneath one of .' ths horses wKich 'were stupk""ffi ' the river I as the result of a coach accident which r precipitated the:woman'-.into the water, - and ultimately saved one of the horses. - Bronze medals were awarded to William Wallace, for rescuing a'boy from drown- • ing at Hokitika; Fritz Ekman, for rescu- . ing two boys and attempting to rescue a third from- drowning at Karaka, Auckl land; H. H. Wauchop (Christchurch) for l rescuing a number of persons from - drowning at the life-saving competitien. , at New Brighton on January 9. 1903. b Certificates were awarded-to:H. S.
