DEATH AFTER A PUSH. CRUSHED BY A SLAB OF STONE. {Pbess Association. — Copxsiohx.] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Agn«s Florence Adams, aged 27 years, drowned herself in the Estuary at "Redcliff to-day, whilst her nurse was telephoning for a doctor to tre.it deceased for wax match poisoning. A verdict was returned that the deceitsed drowned herself whilst in a state of unsound mind. Thomas Saunders, a young man, who received a blow behind the cairn a Sumner hotel on Jan 20th, died dn the Hospital to-day. On the date mentioned Saunderg, when coming out of tho hotel, tripped over a dog belonging to Alex. Kiddey, and it is alleged tha,t the latter struck the blow, which has proved fatal. Kiddey Vas, before the Court on Wednesday, ■charged with having assaulted Saundefs. He admitted having pushed Saunders, but stated that he did not strike him, and this evidence was cniroborated. The case was dismissed. The coroner -has ordered a post mor tern examination, and it is probabl-> that an inquest will bo held. NAPIER Friday. Joseph McCabe, aged 81 years, who was serving a sentence of a fortnight's imprisonment in Napier gaol," 'died. at that institution this morning. He was sunffering from- heart disease. At the iiiquost Mr H. W: Brabant, the Coroner, found a verdict of death from senile decay and heart failure. PAT.MERSTON X, I-riday. A child named Elsie Hairon 12 years of age, was drownel in the Manawatu river to-day while playing. Tho body ha? not 3>pt bor-n rflcovfcred. - TIMARU, Friday. David Given, 46 years of age, the foreman stonemason on St. Mary's (EnglishJ Church building, met with a shocking death this afternoon. n< was engaged pressing big slabs of Oamaru stone on end, when, In (urn ing one, the strong south wiii.i took charge and toppled the slao nvn, when Given was knocked down, and fell "with h ! s head and neck on tbe smaller block of stone, he being crushed between it and thebig slab. Death was almost instantaneous.
