E. Hounsell, treasurer of the Nelson Fire Brigade, informed tbt Council that it was estimated that £40 tvonld be required to carry on the Brigade to the end of March in addition to the sum in hand. —Referred tc Finance Committee. Mr W. W. de Castro, churchwarden of All Saints' Church, requested the Council to hay? the street name removed from the Toi Toi Valley Sunday, school. —Referred to Engineer. A ratepayer applied to have his premises connected with the drainage scheme. —Referred to Special Committee. Ths majority of the ironmongery and hardware firms forwarded a requisition re closing hours. The hours would be^ —Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 5.30 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 p.m. In cases where s-iiops decided to close on Saturday instead of Wednesday (the statutory closing, day) then in all such cases for the purpose of the requisition Saturday to take the place of Wednesday.—Resolved that the usual certificate be attached to the requisition. A second-hand dealer's license was gianted to W. Lock. Mr E; Chisholm, of Milton-street, who had received notice to connect with the drainage scheme, applied for an extension of time for nine months, as hs intended to remove his house. — Resolved that the request be granted, provided the writer entered into a bond for £25 that he would remove his house within a month and connect, his new house with th<» sewer. The resignation of Mr James Lucre mis accepted as Fire Inspector. I.ieut. A. Dee, of the Fife Brigade, was appointed in Mr Lucre's place. Mrs L. A. Bisley intimated that she ".as cutting up flu- Aft. Vernon property of 25 acres in Washington Valley for building Kites, and requested permission to lay off iv road 20 feet wide. — Referred to Works Committee. Mr H. V. GuUy applied for a certificate of service to entitle him to register as a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. —Certificate to be given. City Surveyor's RstonT. The City Engineer reported .-—Sewerage : The works in hand are now employed completing the Tasman-stre?t swallow gravitation area, and have commenced on the Hope-street swallow gravitation area. New Power station: Thia work i.a well forward, and will be completed within a week,after the arrival of the compressors, winch should be here at an early date. Works: The metalling of Cambiffa-streot is well forward, and should be completed in a few days. Many works of minor importance have been receiving attention. High level water supply: This work is progressing favourably, and should be completed by tti^ end of next week. Tho report was adopted. Finance Committee's Report. The Committee reported : —On letter | from Messrs Ross and Gler.dining: That under the circumstances only the average consumption acording to the last throe months be charged. As to lamp at .corner of Franklin and Vanguardstreets : That a lamp be placed as requested. As to proceeding with authorised works: That all works not urgently necessary B 6 deferred till the end of the financial year. As to keoping accounts : That the Mayor and Councillors Hampson and Field be appointed a I special committee to confer with the Town Clerk with reference to an imi proved system of keeping the accounts in both the-Town Clerk's and City Engineer's offices.'
