MR CARNEGIE'S BENEFACTORS.
A HERO FUND. CfiOaS ASSOOIATIO.N. — V0F70.K3U1.) LONDON, riday. Mr Carnegie has given a quarter of a million, producing an income of £12,500 a year, towards the foundation of a "hero fund" in the United Kingdom, to reward the heroes of peace by the maintenance of their widows and children. Mr Carnegie states that we live in an heroic age, often thrilled by deeds of heroism, where men and women ara injured and killed in attempting to preserve and rescue their fellows. These horoes of civilisation ought to be freed from pecuniary cares resulting from their heroism. Men and women are to be treated alike under the fund. Sailors, railway men, nurses, doctors, police, and firemen in the British Isles and the waters thereof are eligible. Trustees will administer the fund. His Majesty King Edward approves of the scheme. The trustees have been directed that whenever the King expresses a wish regarding a case, his will shall be law. Mr Carnegie has now distributed o4 millions.
