NELSON LAYING COMPETITION.
A splendid record was put up at the laying competition at Stoke during the 25th week. The 38 pens averaged over 28 eggs for the seven days, the total output being thebest yet recorded and reaching 1071 eggs. Miss Sails' and F. N. Jones White Leghorns were the be;t pens for the week, each laying 33 eggs. W. 0. Sails , F. Rogers' and A. Frost's pens, all White Leghorns, put up 32 eggs, and there were three 31's— Dr Adams', W. Hockey's and W. W. Snodgrass' pens. E. T. Savage's White Leghorns are
still in the lead, and are now five : ahead of their nearest competitors — J. Hockey's Silver Wyandottee. Coleman and Balck's Brown Leghorns are still in third placs, and W. G. Lane's Silver Wyandottes are fourth. There is close running for "he monthly prize. At the last tally, arid with 8 days to go, Adams' and Hockey's pens were each 100, W. 0. Sails' was 99, F. N. Jones 98, and several others close up.
