HIGH COMMISSIONER'S, REPORT.

WELLINGTON, Monday. The High Commissioner 's cable, ' dated London, 12th Sept., is as follows.-—' The mutton market is somewhat steadier on account of the small supply of beer; but thero is only a moderate demand. Canterbury brands, 4%d; North Island, 3%d. The lamb market is quiet, and the demand is falling off. Canterbury, 5%d. There is a better demand for beef, which is in small supply, New Zealand being held for a rise in price. ] 3%d. The butter market is quiet, but firm, with good demand. . The butter shipped by the Wakanui arrived in good condition, and is quoted at ' 116s; Danish, 119s; Siberian, 108s; Canadian, 115s. , Tho cheese market is firm, with an improved demand. Canadian makes, ■ 61s per cwt. The hemp market is slightly weaker, with less demand. The following are current quotations:— Good fair grade on spot, £27; fair grade on spot, £23; fair current Manila on spot, £23 10s. October to December shipments are quoted as follows: — Good fair grade, £26; fair grade, £23; fair current Manila, £23 10s. Last week tho output from Manila amounted to 24,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is very uncertain, and there is very little New Zealand on hand. Buyers aro not keen to do business, as prices are too high.
