NELSON LAND BOARD.

Following is the conclusion of the report of the proceedings of the monthly meeting of the Nolson Land Board: — 'Applications for renewable lease under "Tho Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900, and its amendments.—Theodore Oscar MoTel, section 2, block viii, Tutaki, 759 awes, approved. Applications for M.D.L.O. leases were dealt with as follows: —Agnes Cornia Johnston, sections 62 and 66, block xv, Mokihinui, postponed last meeting —resolved that applicant be given the privilege of selecting rither section 62 or 66 as the Boar 1 is averse to allowing her to" hold the two sections, rental £1 per annum; John Reginald Bayner, • block vi, Waitakere, postponed last meeting—adjourned for report. William Davis, sections 5 and 59, block 1, Kawatiri —refused, declaration not in order, he already holding an area which precludes him from holding the area applied for. Resolved to recommend that the survey fees payable on a number o'.f j applications for unsurveyed land be dispensed with. Applications for pastoral licenses under regulations of the Bth September, 1904, were dealt with as follows:—Emily Scholefleld, Matakil taki, 50 acres^ —adjourned for adver- . tisement and plan of locality of the | land; Augustus Quinn, block xvi, Marwheraiti," 75 acres, and blocks xii and xvi, Mawheraiti, 75 acres—the two ; applications were adjourned, awaiting ; Warden's report. Applications for land,, general, wero dealt with as follows:—C. Gray, part i section 8. block xiii, Oparara, occ.i---i pation over 1 acre, granted, rental £1 per annum; Edward Schwass, bloc* ii, Beefton, 160 acres, declined, the Board having no power to dispose of ' road reserves along river banks, or beds of rivers; J. W. Ferguson, block i, Pakawau, resolved to reeommond the Minister of Lands to open the area on renewable lease at a renral of 4 per cent based on a capital value of 25s per acre. I A letter was received from Peter Martin, asking to lease section 12, block i, Ngakawau, 90 acres, on rehaving decided to conserve min-ng timber on the area in quostion and :i!i other areas in the vicinity of Ngakawau. | Letter from John, McMahon, asking for 40 acres, adjoining section 6, block ii, Reefton, postponed in ordir to ascertain what improvements Mr McMahon has made on the area of 72 acres granted to him on renewibb lease without competition in March last. I Letter from Robert Heath Stran'R, asking for better tenuTc over his occupation license of 2 acres, block xiv, Pakawau. —Resolved that the Board cannot accede to the request to grant this area on a permanent tenure, or for more than one year without the area being advertised for public competition. If tho applicant chooses to improve the area under the present tenure, the area will be offered for disposal on lease for 14 years, weighted with the value of Improvements. Letter from Harry Creber, wishing to take up sections 51 and 52, block ! !

Satherley, section 22, block ix, Oparara, 52a 2r 13p, 7s 6d an acre, approved ; Francis Currin, section 7, blk x, W'ai-iti, 49a lr, 7s 6d an acre, refused, as statutory improvements have not been effected. Applications for Crown grants by holders of certificates of occupation to purchasers, under section 149, of the Land Act, 1892, Tracey McCarthy jnr., section 20, block x, Wangapeka, 103 a, approved ; William Harry, deceased, per A. D. Bayfieild, section 35, blk xiv, Oparara, 18a 2r 31p, postponed for report by Crown Lands Ranger; Rowden Soper, part section 76 Takaka, original district, 60 acres, postponed for report; James Ryan Simpson(, section 19, blk v, Oparara, 95a, approved ; Joseph Spittall, section 13, blk vii, Takaka, 65a Bp, approved ; G. A. and E. C. Harwood, section 11, blk iii, Totaranui, postponed for report as to improvements effected on the land. Letter from Messrs Pitt and Moore re Wilkie' and Page's survey deposits. — Resolved that the deposits be returned to Messrs Page and Wilkie. Application from A. W. Jensen to be admitted as tenant-in-common with J. P. Jensen in L.I.P. over 605 a, blk viii, Maruia. — Approved. The application of W. Stephens to be allowed to cat posts and rails on Crown lands was approved, subject to the supervision of the Crown Lands Ranger. Assessment of rural lands (ordinary) to be proclaimed open on renewable lease: — Section 4, blk iii, Waitahu, 55a 2r 37p, capital value 16s an acre, loaded with £50 value improvements ; section 5, blk iii, Waitahu, 72a 3r 13p, capital value 16s 6d an acre ; section 6, blk iii, 53a 3r 28p capital value an acre. Letter from M. A. Grooby, asking to have rent reduced on occupation license over reserve section 9, blk ii, Ohika, on account of land taken for railway. Resolved that rent be reduced to 30s a year. Letter from J. White, Christchurch, ie improvements on L.1. P., letter received from White stating that he had started improvements on the land at Tadmor. Letter from W. J. Neehan, Waiuta. — Resolved to grant applicant until 10th September next, by which date he must have started improvements on the land i otherwise the lease will be cancelled. Letter from Miss Mary Hogan, Cheviot, re small grazing run, Wangapeka settlement. Resolved that Miss Hogan be informed that if she does not take up her residence on the run before the 13th August next her lease will be cancelled, j Letter from Messrs Corrigan and Mo- ! rell, Wangapeka, offering land for school site.— -Application by the Education' Board for a school site of two acres out of the homestead section, Wangapeka, was acceded to, provided the Education Board deposits the price of the land, j It was decided to submit by public auction for lease a number of sections , within Harbour Board endowment. Resolved that the annual rentals and valuations of improvements submitted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands bo approved and the sections leased under the conditions approved by the Westport Harbour Board. Timber cutting On occupation licenses. — Resolved to call the attention of the holders of occupation licenses under section 116 of the Land Act, 1892, to the fact that the Board intends to enforce compliance with the conditions of their licenses with Tegard to the preservation of the timber and the keeping of the land clear of noxious weeds. Exchange of tenure M.D.L.O. to renewable lease under the Land Law 6 Amendment Act, 1907, William Ratchffe, section 9, blook x, Mokihinui, postponed for report by Crown Lands Ranger and Warden ; William Walker, section 8, block ii, Kawatiri, approved, subject to the concurrence of the Warden. A Aetter was received from James Gammie, Featherston, surrendering his application for l.i.p. over 645 acres in MjdHMhruia, block.— Alccepted. Resolved that the land be proclaimed open for renewable lease at a capital value of 12s an acre. ( A letter was received from 1. K. Baker, surrendering his application No. 3215 for section 5, block xii, Mokihinui, 629 acres. — Accepted. A. S. and C. D. Lash, occupation license, block viii, Aorere, 400 acres. — Accepted.
