MARVELLOUS MILKING.

IS THIS A WORLD'S RECORD? The following achievement is record ed as having taken place at Rosendale, Wisconsin (U.S.) :— On December 23 the nine-year-old Holstein cow Colon tha 4th's Johanna gave 661 b of milk, and completed her trial, which had been in progress for 365 days. In that time she gave 27,432.51 b of milk, test ing 3.64 per cent fat, or 998.201 b of butter fat, equal to 1,247,821 b of but ter. The average daliy production was milk, 75.21 b; fat, 2.731 b; butter, 3.4? lb. She was milked four times a day a I 5 and 11 o'clock, and finished the test in perfect condition. This cow i; owned by W. J. Gillett, of Spring, yalo Stodk Farm, and before complet ing this year's test, made a world's daily, weekly, and monthly record. These tests illustrate better than anything else how the wonderful strid.s that are being made in the science of breeding and the fact that development naturally follows upon the judicious use of the organs and functions. They also indicate that it is not too high a work to aim at — to raise the average production per cow throughout the whole country to 10,000! b of milk, or 3001 b of butter. Certain it is that there are many inherent powers thatt if developed and utilised we could ver much lower the cost of production.
