To the Editor^ Sir— l am directed Vy the Captain Cook Memorial Committee to sokc:> voiir co-operation with the movement which Becks the erection of a monument at Ship Cove, Queen Cliarlo te Sound, to worthily mark the >™U.r.g place of Captain Cook, and the _ ch.fi rendezvous of the great navigator in connection with his voyages to TSew Zealand. It h the Committee s am, to widen out the scope df the movement, and secure for it a national character, and, with that end in n. v, I have been instructed to write to tl.e editors of the leading ne ™P a .P er . 3 °* tho Dominion and commend to them ,the historical and I»P«*1 "«££ cancc of Ship Cove, and the deHMbie ness of fixing to the spot for all t me a Lord of Us important associat.-ms At present the fund reaches «A.O (of which £100 consists ot a Government subsidy), and it is est.ma.ed that £400 or £500 will fittingly accomto give people of parts of New Zealand other than Marlborough a ready opportuui-.y ■ ot contributing to what they rcgaul as a national object, and they would be grateful if you would assist them in this matter by making your paper a medium for the solicitation and acknowledgment of subscriptions. Jd;j also wish it to be made known as widely as possible that they aro inviting competitive designs of amonument to cost between £200 and £000, and if you can see your way to help them in this matter also -:hoy will be indebted to you. The site of- the proposed monument was selected last month by the Committee, who made a special excursion to Ship Cove, and were rieeimpMied by the Hon. E.
