NELSON SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

GARDEN PARTY. A most -enjoyable garden pa. ty to the members of the newly-formed Nelson Scottish Society was given on Saturday afternoon by the Chief, Mr Robert Allen, and Mrs Allen, at "Ronaki. Ihere was a large attendance, about two hundred guests being present, and the lavish hospitality of their kind hosts was greatly appreciated. The beautiful grounds, laid out as the finest landscape garden in the city, were greatly admired, and to manv who have net seen - Konaki since tile late Messrs Broad and Robinson were the tenants the place was a ! revelation of what the loving and taste, ful hand of the gardener can do. Ins Garrison Band, under Bandmaster Ber-n-man, was in attendance, and played numerous selections during the afternoon. Among the principal attractions was tho graceful dancing by Miss Nelson, a real Scots lassie, who has been in < the city whose name she bears tor the last four years, and the little Misses Tyson. " The former gave a sword dance, took part in a foursome reel, ana also danced a Scottish cake walk^ which was much admired. Miss Nelson was heartilv applauded and thanked, and the entrepreneurs of the coming institute Bazaar at once enlisted her sei-vict-3 for that undertaking. The piping to which the reels, etc., were danced, was done bv Mr Murray with correctness and spirit.' A foursome reel by male members of the Society caused great fun. and a duet was sung by two member. A marquee on the grounds w;as the centre whence refreshments, including tea and claret cup, fruit salad, etc were dispensed among the guests, and' the time seemed all too short when, at 5.30 the. gathering broke up. Before departure Mr Brown expressed the -appreciation of the Society of the kind hospitality of .Mr and Mrs Allen, and complimented the Society on having a Chief who took such keen interest in its welfare.
