ANNUAL RACE MEETING.

Handicapper: W. Coleman. Totalisator Proprietor: F. N. Jones. Secretary: John Glen. The annual meeting of the Nelson Trotting Club took place at Richmond Park yesterday. The attendance of the public was fairly good, and the racing was, if anything, better than usual. The course was hard after the long spell of dry- weather, and it was anticipated that some quick times would be put up ; but, contrary to expectations, nothing sensational so far as time was concerned took place. Besides the totalisator, which was, as usual, in the hands of 'F.N." and his staff, there were three licensed "bookies," who apparently -did fairly good business. With the exception of the first race each event was got off according to time, and the public had plenty of time to return to town by the 5.30. The "Ladies' Bracelet" was won by Mr Thomas' Dick Stevens, and the cup presented by Mr H. Baigent by Mr Wallace's Bangor. Both these trophies were presented to the successful winners in front of the Grand Stand. The president, in a few appropriate remarks, congratulated Messrs Wallace and Thomas on their wins, and then artistically placed the bracelet round the wrist of Mrs Thomas. Following are the events :— . Pioneer Trot, of 17sovs. ; second horse 3sovs. from the stake. Open to all horses that have never won in faster time than 2.50 to the mile. One mile and a-half. Lady Dickens, 6secs 1 Nobility, ssecs 2 Corbett Child, 3secs d Bangor, Lady Fox, and Holland were scratched. Waimea started with a good lead, and was followed by Holland and Lady Dickens. Ai the turn Nobility came away fast, but Lady Dickons p.-ove-l too good ip the straight, and won easily by a couple of lengths. Time 4.30. ' Waimea Handicap, of 25sovs. ; second horse 3sovs. from the stake. One mile and a-half. Ngatawa, 30secs . ■• 1 King Teddy, 31secs Z Overland, 36secs A Nobility and Bangor were scratched. Overland led for a considerable distance, and at one time looked like winning, but in the turn for hime Ngatawa came along very fast and won by six lengths. Time 4.20 2-sths. Ladies' Bracelet Handicap. First horse lady's bracelet (value 15 guineas) and ssovs. ; second horse 3sovs. Open to all riders, but an amateur shall receive ssecs. start of a professional. Open to trotters and unhoppled pacers only. Distance, Z miles. Dick Stevens, 24secs 1 Lady Dickens, 52secs <J Temite, uosecs ° Governor was scratched. Dick Stevens soon overhauled his field, and romped home. Time 5.21. Nelson Trotting Club Handicap, of 35 soys. and Cup presented by the president (Mr H. Baigent); second horse ssovb. from the stake. Two miles. Bangor, 52secs 1 Marathon, 30secs 2 Governor, 44secs J Ngatawa, Overland, Picaroon, Rerenga, and Lilla rluon were scratched. From a good start the Governor was the first to pass the stand, closely followed by Sir John. At the back of the course Bangor came along, and coming down the straight assumed a good lead and won comfortably. Time 5.48. Brightwater Handicap, of 20sovs. ; second horse 3sovs. from the stake. One mile and a-half. Lady Dickens, 34secs 1 Corbett Child, 31secs 2 Diok Stevens, 13seca. 3 Angelina and Primrose* were scratched, Ron Bay and Waimea were the first to pass {he stand, with Corbett Child close up. At the back of the course Lady Dickens came through the field and won easily. Time 4.30 l-sth. Richmond Handicap (for trotters only); 20 soys. ; second, horse to receive 3 soys, from stake. Two miles. Dick Steven-, 24secs., with 4 sec", penalty, 1 Governor, uO sees 2 Ngativwa i 40 sees., 3 Lady DiQkens, Hadee, Nobility, Picaroon, and Huon Bell were scratched. Dick Stevens bad it all his own way, and won as he liked, Time, 5.8 3-sth, Electric Handicap, of 20 soys.; 2nd horse three soys. from stoke. One mile. Overland, 21 sees., 1 Kino; Toddy. 21 sees., 2 Corbett Child, 21 sees 3 Dick Stevens, Miss Praebiirn, Companion, aij.l Primrose were scratched. This was one o£ the best races of the day, The first and second horses had a regular ding-dong go all down the straight, when the winner, Overland, just managed to get in front. Time, 2.51.
