STRIKE OF BUTCHERS.
PAEROA FREEZING WORKS STOPPED. [United I_ess Assocafc&TioH J TIMARU, Thursday. This morning all the butchers at the Paeroa Freezing Works struck on account of one of their number being discharged for smoking on "the board. There is a special place provided for smoking but the butcher discharged infringed the regulations by smoking on the board. One of the directors of the company, Mr P. H. Rhodes unsuccessfully endeavoured to settle the. matter amicably, The men were given until 3 o'clock this afternoon to return to work, failing which others will be put on in their places. In the mean- j 1 time the works are stopped.
