At the Supreme^ Court to-day Esmond William Lewis Ward, convicted on several charges of false pretences and theft. . was sentenced to two years. > Three lads— James Paterson, Alfred Irwin, and James Newall- — were charged with assaulting .three girls aged from 10 to 14 years. The hearing of this case occupied till 11.15 p.m., when the jury retired to consider their verdict. DUNEDIN,. Wednesday. At the Supreme Court to-day J. J. Tudor applied for a dissolution of his marriage with Elizabeth Findlay Tudor on the "round of desertion. The parties were married in 1889, and evidence showed that respondent left the petitioner in 1902, returning twice ;n the same year, but only for a week each time. A decree nisi was granted. ■' . ( The question of the jurisdiction of the Charitable Aid Board and of the .Benevolent Trustees in the matter of tbC „StriT?l3tioii o£ ciaritablo ai<l came'before the Court in the form of an application by the former for an order declaring that it had general control over the distribution of -charitable aid within tho united districts of Central Otago, Tuapeka, and Otago, and that it had Dower to specify parts of the district within which -tluj: Benevolent Trustees had power to distribute aid. The Board wished to confine the Trustees' operations to a limited area; but the Trustees .claimed that the distribution of charitable aid was vested in them over 20 years ago. Mr Justice Williams reserved his decision.
