Wakelieitlciij. District A FORTHCOMING BAZAAR. ! A pleasant gathering was' held at St. John's Parish Hall, Wakefield, on the afternoon of Wednesday last. A plentiful tea had been provided by the ladies of the Bazaar Committee, and after full justice had been done thereto, a variety of articles made for the Bazaar were inspected by the visitors. The cost of the material from which each article was made could not exceed one shilling, and a first and second, prize were given by Dr Hamilton and Mr H. J. Harris for the most valuable. The judges were Mesdamcs Hastilow, Oorrie, and White, and Miss Haultane, and they had a very difficult task to fulfil, owing to the wonderful ingenuity that had been displayed in all the various exhibits, and it was orJy after long and anxious consultation by the judges that finally the first prize was awarded to Miss Elsie Hooper. It consisted of a handsome silver flower vase. The second prize was a pretty butter dish, and was awarded to MrF Geo Robertson. A n amber of intending competitors were not represented owing to the heavy rain that fell throughout the day. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Dr Hamilton and Mr Harris, donorsjaf the prizes, and to Mrs Hamiltony* the energetic Secretary and Treasurer of the Bazaar Committee, the main promoter of the gathering. The ;Bsazaar is. to be held on the 12th and 131R of November, and it is expected to be a' great success. All the ladies throughout the parish ore working hard, whileithe farmers have: promised sheep, poultVy, butter, eggs, hams, bacon, etc. ' ""The proceeds of the Bazaar are to be fairly divided between helping to build new churches at Stanley Brook and Tadmor, and the erection of a Sunday School at Foxhill, and repairs to churches at Motupiko and Dovedale, painting the Church and Sunday School at Wakefield, and repairs to the Vicarage.
