Wakefieltl "arid Wai-Ifl. I FARMERS 1 UNION. I The usual monthly meeting of tthe Wakefield Branch of the Farmers' Union was hpld in tlie Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday evening. There was \ good attendance of members. The President, Mr I. Tiumicliff, presided. The vexed question of tho small birds' nuisance was again before the m«eti\ng.' s After some diseu&ion it was decided to procure five bushels of phosphorised oats for distribution, this form of poisoning having given satis- ' faction last year. The question of the removal to Wakefield of the Provincial headquarters was brought up, several members contending that, Wakefield was more central than Richmond. After a, rather lively discussion it was decided to send a remit to the Provincial Conference asking that the question might be considered. It was also resolved, on the motion of Mr Field, that the Provincial Executive bo requested to bring the matter lof pooling orders for manures and bindo.' twines for the mutual benefit of momjaers, proniinently befor© tihe branches. It was stated that fully 500 tons of manures of different kinds wore used annually by farmers, orchardists, and others in the Nelson , district, with every prospect of a con-* siderable increase of this quantity. | This concluded the Branch business. I The Field Day Committee then met. ' Mr Bruce, the Secretary, read the report and balance-sheet, which showed that the total pioceeds from all sources were £97 16s Od, the gate being responsible for £43 12s 6d, the balance being made np from entrance fees, sale of programmes, donations,, . etc. Disbursements amounted to £75, spent, on prizes advertising, and other incidental expenses, leaving a balance of £22. The results were highly satisfactory from every point of view. Votes of thanks and of appreciation for services rendered were unanimously passed to the judges, timekeepers, Press, the Police, to Dr Hamilton for his services in connection with the Official Programmes, to all donors of special prizes, and also to those who had contributed to the funds, and to Mr Hooper for the use of paddocks. The Secretary, Mr Bruce, was especially thanked for his share in the success of the gathering. A donation was granted to the Richmond Brass Band, in appreciation of their services. This concluded the business, and the meeting was then adjourned.
