BOROUGH COUNCIL. h The monthly meeting of the Rich- ' mond Borough Council was held on . t Tuesday, the 11th inst., at 7.30 p.m. Present — The Mayor (Mr A. Sheat) in the chair, Crs. Papps, Fanzelow, Little, Wilkes, Hunt, and Hart. The minutes of the previous meeting, also of a special meeting held on the 30th May, were read and conflrmThe Mayor reported having attended with the deputation that recently waited on the members of Parliament for the district to urge the establishment of a State experimental farm in the Nelson district, and that they had promised to do all they could to further the object the deputation had in view. Accounts were submitted, and duly passed for payment as follows : — General account, £27 3s 2d; water supply account, 18s 3d. Correspondence was received as follows : From the railway manager, notifying that the clearing of the ditch on the railway reserve at Richmond would be duly attended to. FVom the County Engineer, stating that the matter of the overflow at Balck's Creek was receiving attention. From the Town Clerk, Picton, conveying the information asked for concerning the recent installation of acetylene gas in that borough. — The thanks of the Council to be conveyed to the Town Clerk of Picton for the information afforded. From Mr Meycc, requesting permission to hang an enlarged photograph of the Richmond Brass Band in the Council's Chamber.— Permission granted. The balance-sheet for the year ended March, 1907, was received from the Auditor-General, duly certified ; and it was resolved that the same be adopted, and printed. The balance-sheet of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Was received and laid on the table. Mr G. Webby submitted an offer for crushing and delivering road metal for the Borough, and it was resolved that the offer be accepted for 250 yards, provided the metal is crushed to t the satisfaction of the Weeks Committee and delivered where directed by them. The Works Committee reported that there was a quantity of stones in Mr Frank Sutton's paddocks which he nac offered to them, and it was resolved that 3s 6d a yard be offered for breaking the same, the matter of carting to be left to the Weeks Committee. The Council's foreman applied for an increase of wages. After discussion, it was resolved that the foreman's wages be raised. Is a day on the understanding that he find his own tools? except shovels. Cr. Hart reported that a few loads of gravel were needed on Upner Queenstreet and Hill-street.— The matter was referred to the Works Committee. It was resolved that the hedge in front of the Recreation Ground be considerably lowered. The high hedge at the back of Mr W. D. Andrews' property was also referred to, the road being injured thereby. Cr. Fanzelow reported that he had interviewed Mr Andrews on th<^ subject of the hedge, and that that gentleman had promised to get it cut. It being reported that Messrs Lusty and T. Walker were anxious that the Council should ccect a bridge at the junction of Hill-street and Championroad, it was resolved, that the Works Committee visit the spot and report to next meeting. It was resolved that, the service pipes recently laid on tipper Queenstreet be protected from the frost. It Was resolved that the Works Committee take steps to get the services of the Toad-paring machine so as to pare the sides of all the streets requiring to be done, as expeditiously as possible.. Several other matters were discussed and the Council rose.
