THE NEW KINGS 4 COUNSELLORS.
REMARKS BY MR JUSTICE
COOPER,
[United Phess Association.]
Dr Findlay (Attorney-General), Mr M. Chapman, and Mr H. D. Bell, who have been appointed King's Counsel, took the formal oath at the Supreme Court today. Mr Justice Cooper, in a few remarks, said the Bar in New Zealand had been distinguished for a great number of years for learning, ability, and the high seiiss of honour, which was one of the traditions of the English Bar. The occasion was one to be fairly termed historic. The .gentlemen who riad just taken the oath were three, of the most distinguished leaders of the profession, and he regretted that Mr C. P. Skcrrett, who was also held in High esteem md respect, was net present to take the oath. He believed that throughout, the Colony apj>ointments would be received with satisfaction by members of the bar, by solicitors, and by the general public. This occasion, which brought the New Zealand bar on a level with the English bar, marked the attainment cf a status for -which this country had been waiting for many years.
