A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION.

The annual Show of flowers and fruit and vegetables held at Brightwater in aid of the Parsonage Rebuilding Fund, was opened yesterday. Entries received • numbered over 600, showing that the : Show maintains its popularity amongst j thoso who aro in a position to become 1 exhibitors. The display of fruit ir again a proof of the district for the production of high-class apples —which, of course, form the leading feature in this section of the Show. Though there are hardly so many exhibits of fruit this year, the quality is well up to the mark of previous years. The display of pears, too, is a good one so far as It goes. In the vegetable section some of the clauses are well-contested, and many of the exhibits are of high quality. There is a noticeable falling-off in the potato classes, though those shown are good specimens. Mr Hall shows a collection of over 40 varieties. Some very fine pumpkins, marrows, and onions are shown, one mammoth pumpkin grown by Mr Haycock, weighing 911 b., and the onions grown by Mr Tunniclift'e being of immense size. The mangolds shown by the Messrs Arnold are of great size. In the flower section the outstanding features were tho chrysanthemums and dahlias, really magnificent blooms being shown, though some of what would have been the best of the "mums" had been damaged by the rain. The display of cactus dahlias is worthy of special mention. The exhibits in the classes for jellies, preserves, etc., were of excellent quality, and attracted a deal of attention. The judges were : —Flowers, vegetabls and fruit, Mr J. Hale; domestic produce, Miss Gascoigne and Miss Reid ; dairy produce and preserves, Mr John Glen; -ndustrial products, Mrs Molesworth and Miss Talbot; fine arts, Mr N. Stedman; school work, Mrs Molesworth, Miss Talbot, and Miss Allport.
