THE BUDGET CRITICISED. (Received April 29, 8.32 a.m.) LONDON, Friday. The Budget in many circles is interpreted as an astute bid for middle class support. The_ Labourites are disappointed at the postponement of old age pensions, and intend to move an amendment on the., subject. Mr Keir Hardie, M.P.j interviewed, described the Budget as a "Brutal ; Budget." - The "Daily News" says that the .Budget is one of expectations. ■ The "Daily Telegraph" declares that the Budget is a further step towards the penalisation of capital and a fore-runner-of Socialistic Budgets.
(Received April 20. 8.42 a.m ) Friday. It ia estimated that 913,000 people will benefit by -the reduction in the tax on earned income. Mr Asquitb, speaking on the budget in the House, mentioned coal, not coin, as one item to which the surplus waß mainly due. In declaring it unwise to treat each year's financo as self-con-tained, he added that thero ought to be a Budget for several years. '
