HIGH COMMISSIONER'S 'i REPORT. i The Department of Industries and CommercS has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated the 13th inst. :— Mutton.— Market quiet. Slightly better demand at reduced prices. Average prices : Canterbury mutton, 3Jd, North Island 3|d, Australian 3id, River Plate 3jjd. There is a good demand for all lamb, and a better tone is experienced. This week the supplies fall short of the demand as far as light weights are concerned. These average s^d. Canterbury heavy weights are quoted at bid, and 5d is asked for similar weights in other than Canterbury brands. There is better demand for beef owing to the short supplies of chilled shipments. New Zealand beef is quoted at 3^d and 2Jd for hindquarters and forequarters respectively. The butler market fs dull. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to lower, antf Some holders are forcing sales, having heavy supplies on hand. Choice New Zealand is quoted at 9Bs, Australian 955, Danish ( 105s. Supplies are increasing from Siberia. Butter from that country is quoted at 91s. The cheese market is quiet, with a tendency to favour buyers, but good business is being done at 635. The following are the. arrivals of mutton from the River Plate during March 1907 :— London, 30,959 carcases; Liverpool, 67,896; Hull, 9032; Newcastle, 5807; Cardiff, 8487; Manchester, 4681. Of lambs the arrivals are :— At Liverpool, 1230 carcases; at Hull, 1100; and at Newcastle, 1100.
