(From Our Own Correspondent.) I A PRESEN NATION. Last week MiFS T,. M. Moffatt, who. 1 until lately has been Postnvstress and Telephonist at the Wharf Office, having t recently resigned, was the recipient of : an illirninated address and a god watch, , presented by the Mayor. Mr F. W. ■ Thorp, on behalf of the steamer - owners and others interested in the ' trade of tho port. The presentation : was made at the Harbour Board Office, in the prcs-nce of the representatives of the subscribers. Tho Mayor, in a eulogistic; speech, expressing appreciation of M iss Moffai's services, covering a | period of ten years, soid that it gave 1 him the greatest pleasure in having the honour to present such a well-merited testimonial. He rrad telegiams containing good wishes from Messrs Johnston and Co., Ltl.. Sargo'd, Son, and Ewen, and the Anchor SS. Co., of Nelson. Captnin Allman and Messrs F. C. Batchelor and C. Lowe (the last representing the Fruitgrowers' Association) also raadecoaiplimentary speeches. Mivs Moffalt, in thanking nil those who had thus given such a kindly and valuable expression cf their goodwill, said their presentation and the signatures on tho beautifully illuminated address wouH constantly remind h?r of tho-e who;e friendship it was an honour to possess. The Mayer said ho could not let the Decision pass without saying a few words expressive of the esteem in wh'ch the shipping companies and shipp3rs of the port held Mr H. L. Moffatt, whose services as Wharfinger and Harbourmaster for moie than 30 years had given entire satisfaction. He asked M.'ss Moffitt to alivays remember that the occasion cave him pleasure to bo able to speak so highly of her father, who had gained tho confidence and appreciation of the whole o unnmni'y. Mr Motl'utt suitably acknowledged the kind remaiks of the Mayor, and said he had only dono what he considered his duty, and hoped that while he held his present position he would continue to do sp. At the conclusion of tho proceedings the party partook of afternoon tea provided by Mra E. Holdaway. :
