To make room for reports, telegrams, correspondence, etc., our leading article is held over till to-morrow. There will be only one mass, at 8 a.m., at St. Mary's (Jhurch on Sunday, owing to the absence of Father Smith, who is attending the funeral of the late Mr Gould at Murchison. For the same reason there will not be any service at Waimea West next Sunday. The Mayor (Mr J. Piper) has received a telegram announcing that his Excellency the Admiral of the Australasian Squadron (Sir Wilmot H. Fawkes) will arrive in Nelson from Westport on Saturday evening, travelling by motor car. A battalion parade in connection with the Waimea Rifles will be held at Nelson on Wednesday, 24th inst. In connection with the harvest festival to be held at the Baptist church on Sunday, those who can help by contributions" of flowers, fruit, etc., are asked to bring these to the church as soon as possible after 2 o'clock to-mor-row afternoon. The WakefieW branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union invite all ratepayers to attend a meeting to be held, in the Oddfellows' Hall, Wakefield, on Tuesday evening next, to consider a matter affecting their interests. Mr E. A. Edward announces that he has opened a fruit and confectionery shop in Hardy-street, in the premises adjoining Mr Muncaster's. A fine display of fruit is made, the quality of the apples and pears particularly, being all that could be desired, and an object lesson of the district's capabilities in the way of fruit production. Mr Edwards should receive a due share of the public's patronage. The fortnightly meeting of the Nelson City Council will be held in the Municipal Chambers at 7.30 this evening. A meeting of the Nelson Jockey Club will be held in Mercer's Rooms on Friday evening, 26th inst., at 7.30 o'clock, to consider the rules. Bob Jones, the dustman, whose illness ness evoked much sympathy, died at his cottage, Brook street, this morning at 1 o'clock, from pneumonia. He iv.r assiduously attended throughout his illness by Dr. Andrew, and Mr Charier Mooro efficiently administered the practical aid given by various citizens in providing nurses, etc. But the unfortunate man had been ill four days before the seriousness of his condition was realised and then he had little chance of recovery. The report of the opening of the V.M.C. rooms last evening will be found on the 4th page of this issue. It is reported from Adelaide that at the • Government Labour Bureau there is daily a crowd of able-bodied and willing men waiting for the chance of a job. The municipal elections are exciting considerable interest in the several large cities in New Zealand. In each city a strong Labour ticket is being run, and with some prospects of success. In Auckland the Labour candidates are conducting a series of open-air meetings, and are meeting with a favourable reception from the audiences. On Thursday next at 1.30 p.m., at the Temperance Boarding House, Bridge street, Mr Lock will sell the furniture and effects belonging to Mr W. Bell. Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co.. will hold their weekly auction auction sale on Wednesday next, at 2 p.m., when they will offer 1250 sheep, including a line of 500 crossbred wether lambs. To-morrow, at their rooms, Hardystreet, Messrs Mark Sprot and Co., under instructions from the Public Trustee, in the Estate of the late Mrs Jessie Mansford, will offer for sale, residential property, at present occupied by Mr F. Hamilton, off Manuka-street; on Wednesday next, they hold stock sale at the White Hart Yards, Richmond, Particulars will appear later. Proiperty sale to-morrow at noon.
