TNE ALPINE MINE.
... IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS. j [United. Press Association.] GREYMOUTH, Friday. Important developments are reported from the Alpine mine, Lyell. A strong new reef, showing'splendid gold freely, h reported at the extreme No. 4 level, believed to be a continuation of remarkably rich stbrie recently found in the No. '7 level. The distance between the Nos. 4 and 7 levels is about 750 ft. The reef is perpendicular, and a very large block ( f stone of much value is now indicated. No, 7 level is still being driven north on the -reef, which continues to widen, and is very rich. It is intended to extend No. 10 level about 200 ft north. This is necessary to come under the line of the new reefs in No. 4 and No. 7 levels. Indications aro good and should the new reef live to this depth over 1100 ft of backs, level free, will- be proved, giving some years of crushing in sight on rich stone.. The Company expects to complete .jts purchase of tho mine shortly, and to start work in full swing in February" or March. Ths; mine is being ful- I ly equipped with a large battery and < all .appliances, and everything will be ! ready to start crushing in March. The returns from tho new reef are expected to give the much-needed filip to legitimate quartz-mining in the colony.
