EMPLOYMENT IN NELSON.
To The Editor. Sir,—ln 'your issue of Wednesday evoniing in the report on tho proceedings of the Magistrate's Court, and 'referring to rthe case of the three strangers who were charged with travelling Ifrom Wellington without paying itheir fare, ■ you state that a '''good Samaritan " came to the tcscuo and found work for the >nvett. Now, Sir, as thero are men walking about Nelsoit who are able and willing 1 to work, but oannot get ' it, I think you will agree with me when I say that local men "have ai prior claim, on local work to outsiders, who admitted they had left 'a job because • 'they wanted something easier. Upon inquiry at 'the Labour Office I think you will find' there- aro names of several local men who aro unemployed at present, some of -whom applied at tho septic tank work's for employment, but were unsuccessful in obtaiil- , ing 'it. The point is that mem from outside can leave a job, , travel without 'paying, and then obtain work whilst local rateI payers or rent payers are unable 'to got work. By ' 'inserting th« foregoing you will oblige; Yours, etc., ' LOCAL LABOUflfctt. Nelson, Dec. tith.
