Gilbert and Sullivan's well-known opera "The Pirates of Penzance will be staged at the Theatre Royal, Nelson, to-morrow evening by R"*m°nd amateurs, under the direction of Mrs W. K. May A special train will be run to convey performers to and from the city. The scenery has been specially painted by Mr Alf. Higleson, and the dresses and Staging will be on a lavish scale. The characters will be taken by Mrs W. R- May, Mrs A, P. Allport Misses E. Kingsland, E. Gilbert, 1 Thomas, E Talbot, Messrs J. W. Henderson, W. H. May, J. O'Connor, A. P. AUport, and J. Cameron, while there will be a strong and well-trained orchestra. A special train will leave Richmond to-morrow night, at 5.30, for Nelson, returning home leaving Nelson at lU.'to. This will give Richmond travellers an ( opportunity of witnessing the perform- , ance. , Van Bree's cantata "St. Cecilia's 1 Day" will be rendered by a full or- ' chestra and chorus under the eonductorship of Mr Purcell Webb in the a School of Music on Wednesday next. < Gus Leffler, Australian billiard pro- ' fessional, who is advertised to give an I exhibition tomorrow evening at the > Central Hotel, arrived by the s.s. Ara- ■ hura this morning from the West I Coast, of which he has just made a sucessful tour.
