AUCKLAND, Friday. Mi- JVlcNab, Miinistcr for Lands, addressed a large meeting at Otahuhu to-night, when a vote of thanks to the Minister and of confidence in the" Government was carried. An amendment in favour of j tho optional system, of tenures was negatived. . I At a meeting of the members of ! the Farmers' Union-, held to-night, the president delivered an address ' adversely criticising the Land' Bill. Tho following motion was proposed :— '-'After reading '.the published reports of the speech made at Onohuoga by the Minister for Lands, this meeting of farmers records its emphatic protest agaihst tho | nrovdsions of the Land Bill, whx* makes it impossible for future st* tiers on Crown lands to accfuire the freehold of their . holdings. It considers a lease, without the option to purchase will 1.-c unsatisfactory to settlers, and detrimental to tha best interests of the State, as tending to ■discourage settlement. The. motion was carried unanimous- | ly amid cheers.
