DEATH OF MKS DAVID DRUM,MOND. From the fast diminishing ranks oE the Nelson piojieers there has passed, yet another, inj the person of Mrs Dayid Drummond, relict of the late David. Drummond; of \ Riwaka. The late. Mrs Drummond was in her 92nd year, having been bom in Fifeshire in the year 1815. She > emigrated to J«ew Zealand, arriving .in Nelson in the Fife:(hire on February 2nd, 1842, and settled in Motueka, .where she waa the first white woman. She was heW in high regard by the to'aoris, who; provided her with "a whare and designated her "Queen of the Pah-" La;,er on she removed to Riwaka, .md thence to Marahau, where her husl>and engaged in sawmilling. After 14 years' residence there she returned to Miwaka, where she spent the remainder of her days In common with the n lajority of the early settlors, she esp* nenced a full share of hardship, bnt a he was always of a. bright, and optimisHic disposition, and to the last she b* >re hei troubles bravely and hor sujTermgs with Christian fortitude. Untjil laid aside by old age, she was ever; ready with help for those in need, . indeed she was "Granny" to, all alike; 'lhe deceased lady, who had survival her husband 16 years, leaves a family of seven sons and one daughter; ' also fifty-five grandchildren, and seventy gre'ati-grandchildren.
