CORRESPONDENCE.
THE ONE-DELIVESY MILK SUPPLY. To the Editor. Sir — The decision of our milk-suppliers to supply milk only once a day is so serious that I have been surprised some more able pen than mine has not taken up the matter belore this. Surely our milk suppliers take a gTeat deal for granted if they think such an arrangement would meet with approval. In any case they have started a month too soon. May is not a winter month in Nelson. I would like to know what our doctors think about such an arrangement. Do they think the prevalence of fever, etc, at present in our midst will decrease ?. I f col sure it will not, I was told by one milkman that they mix the afternoon milk with the fresh morning milk. That means that we will not get fresh milk at all, and the fact of mixing it at all is enough to make some children ill. Just imagine giving a young infant such milk till the following morning, and milk is the chief form of diet for young children. I am sure I feel sorry for the poor babies and mothers too. If the milk suppliers have not sufficient milk to meet the demand, that is not the. consumers' fa\d\. The past season has. not been such, a. dry one to warrant so serious a move, I would like to know if such ayrangeiuent exists in any other town. }n, New Zealand. If we were living iv the drought-stricken parts of Australia such a course would be excusable. Why not ask the consumers to try and do with less milk during the winter months ? I feel sure they would, and be willing to pay a little more for it if they could depend on it being quite fresh. At present wq have, to use milk thirty-six hours -old <oV breakfast, as they do not de£wsr- before seven in our street \ »£<* I " think, Mr Editor, you wiU agree, with me that milk is Wss ?* *or. use, whether it has been scalded or- not, after' thirty-six hours. I hope someone else will give their opinion on a matter of such, importance to the public health. What does our Health Officer think about it ? Thajc&ingyou in anticipation, Y^.urs^ &io„ A MOTHEE. [Correspondence is invited on the foregoing topic. Several complaints have reached this office, based exactly on the points touched uponl by our coi- I respondent.— Ed. N.E.M.]
