DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT AUCKL AND
GREAT DAMAGE DONE. AUCKLAND, This Day, The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s offices and stores, Quay-street, were partly. des-. troyed by fire this morning. The interior of the building and a large quantity of flax were burned. The damage is estimated to the building at £5000 and to the flax at £10,000. The flax destroyed was to have ' been shipped by the Wakanni for London, and a small quantity for San Francisco by the Ventura. The damage to the biiilding is covered by insurance. The fire had a strong hold when the - brigade arrived, the flames bursting through the roof and windows. The brigade attacked the seat of the fire and subdued it in a couple of hours after considerable damage had been done tb the roof and the contents of the building. The walls are practically undamaged. The office was in thie corner furthest from the' fire and was untouched by the flames, though soaked by water.
