WELCOMES HOME.

On Saturday evening Bugler Jacobs, of the Fifth Contingent, was the guest at a welcome home social given by his comrades of the Garrison Band at the Exchange Hotel. A number of ex-members of the Band and Bugler Jacobs' father were also present. Bandmaster '■ russell presided, and proposed the health of the guest, whioh was drunk with musical honours. Bugler Jacobs, in his reply, gave an interesting account of some of his experiences during the campaign. Musical items were rendered daring the evening. Bandmaster Trussell gave a cornet solo (Tancredi) ; Sergt ycott gave several piano solos, and songs were sung by Corporal Woodward, bandemen C. Leaper, Krahagen, Light, Daly, Wilkins, Liley, and -. Davies. The toasts included ''Honorary Members " and "Absent Friend 3," special mention being made of ex- Bandsman Btreet, at present in South Africa with the Sixth Contingent, the " Ho3t and Hostess," and Bandmaster Trussell. The company sang " Auld Lang Syne " and the National Anthem before dispersing. Corporal Bolton, of the Fourth ''onlingent, was entertained at a social by his old comrades of the " Colonist " companionship on Saturday evening. Mr J. F Kitch ing occupied the chair, and Mr R. YV. Sliles the vice-chair. A very enjoyable evening was spent, aud a number of toasts were honoured, including " Corpl. Bolton,"£and '' Mr Bolton, senior." The musical programme was contributed to by Messrs Kitching, Stiles, Bannehr, Frank, Brown, Robertson, Baxter, H. Finney, Robertson, MoQavm, Brooker, and Chittenden. "Auld Lang Syne " and " God Save the King " were sung at the close. On Friday evening Corpl. Bolton was presented by a nuiubar of old friends residing hear his home with a handsome ! silver-mounted pipe and tobacco pouch. I
