FAREWELL FROM THE COMMONWEALTH.
TIIK ROYAL REPLY. ( Received July 27, 9.42 a.m ) PERTH, This Day. Lwd Hopetoun, Governor-General, on behalf of the Commonwealth, has forwarded a farewell message to the Duke and Duchess, trusting that the .Royal stay in Australia had been happy and interesting, and adding that Australia will cherish the proud recollections of the in T augmal year of the Commonwealth so signally honoured by the heir to our well beloved King.
The Dukue replied : " 1 beg you to express to the Ministers and people of the Commonwealth our heartfelt thanks for their very touching- mesasge of farewel It will be an abiding source of satisfac^ tion that I have been permitted to carry out the great mission entrusted to me by the King to open the first Federal Parliament These are our last words before quitting your shores. We wish to renew
the assurance of our warmest gratitude for the loyalty and affection extended to us during 1 the happy and eventful months spent in the various Stafts of Australia. May every possible blessing be bestowed upon their people"
