In searching for the oause, suspicion fell on tha tea they had nsed. A sample taken from a ome pound tin ir use was analysed and found to contain strong traces of MURIATIC ACID, the presence of which is caused by the use of spirits of salts in welding tho parts of tin together. Tho analyst warns consumers tbat tea packed in Bmall tins, owing to Hb very absorbent nature, is very liable to become impregnated with tbis acid, and therefore dangerous for human consumption, and advises that the very safest package to purchase is that packed in lead with an inside lining of vegetable parchment. This stylo o packet is quite impervious to the air, and tea so paoked has been knowr to ietain all its aroma and strength for a period of five years.
