In tbe newspaper libel action Armstrong (a returning officer) v. tba " Otago l'aiiy Timea," Danedin. for £501 damagea for libol a verdict for £75 witb costs on the lowest scale was given. Ihe ibel consisted of comments on the returning officer's chargea, and an allusion to him aa having the predatory instincts of the Armstrongs of tne Border of former days.
