FOOTBALL.

NELSON V. COLLEGE. On Saturday afternoon an off-match between tho College and Nelson Clubs was played in Trafalgar Park, resulting in a win for ihe former by 13 points to 10. A considerable number of spectators attended, and though tbere was comparatively little brilliant play, the game was followed with interest. For tho College E. Mules scored, with short quiok runs, two tries whioh he cloverly converted, and he also put a fino goal from half-way, which, of course, did not add to the score, while L. R. Bonar also got over the line, but Mules failed to convert. For tbo Nelson team, which, however, was nofc wholly representative, M. Bonar scored two tries after brilliant runs, and would have scored a third time from ft swift run right along the northern line from half-way, had not G. Fell interoopted him with a plucky counter-rnn and hurled bim neatly into touoh not far from the goal-line. Tho Nelson team wore for tho most .part raw, this being practically the first turn-out of the season, but were only mastered afteredTaf ter some struggling, Thia was also the College's first matoh, but they havn been undergoing a rigorous course ot gymnastics for some time, and they showed the result by their victory over their generally heavier opponents. Mr Littlejohn rofereed with the usual satisfaction to both sides. Quite a phenomenal number of " cramp " oases oocurred, most probably from lack of field training.
