EVIDENCE AT CHRISTCHUKCH. [United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. Defore the Police Commission to-day, Constable Jaokson, Rangiora, suggested that the pay of relieving constables, namely, £1 Is a week, was too small. Constable Roche, Amberley, suggested that doctors' fees should be more liberal, j Constables were now allowed them only I for accident or' iiijuiyon duty, though i somotimeß illneßs was oaused by exoes- i sivo duty. Constables ought to have - 1 free uniform, and permission for marri- c age should not be given so easily, and that more attention should be given the " character of women who sometimes married policemen. He stated that while stationed at Eketahuna he 'was threatened with removal, and after taking action against an hotel a petition was circulated . for his removal. He thought that if the v Commissioner of Police were placed in c [he same position as the Auditor General a the Licensing Act would be enforced.
