THE VOLUNTEER ENCAMPMENT.

PREPARATIONS AT WESTPORT. [United Press Association.] WESTPORT, April 6. The weather is fine to-day for the Volunteer camp, and Quartermaster Coleman lifts completed erecting the canvas and outbuildings. The camp in situated on the south bank of the Buller river, in Borne clear paddooks, and presents a neat and comfortable appearance. The catering arrangements are first-class, and the visiting corps should be pleased with the | accommodation provided. ' ' The Town Volunteers will muster at the Drill Shod at 6'45 to-night in marching order, and, headed by the Garrison Band, will march to the Port, where they embark on the s.s. Tutanekai for Westport. The Stoko and Waimea Rifles will proceed to the Port by train. It is expected that there will be good musters of all the corps. The Tutanekai will arrive here about 7 o'clock to-night with the Maryborough men, There will be three corps from thero. including the Marlborough Mounted Rifles, who will attend, tho camp us an infantry corps. The Tutanekai, which was to have left Picton at H-30 this morning, did not get away until 12'40, bo that she will not arrive hore until about 8 o'olook to-night. The College Cadets left by train this afternoon for Bnghtwater, where they will pitch their camp on what is known as Keay's Island. The Cadets are in charge of Captain Littlejohn, and will bo under canvas until Monday evening. Tho Defence Department refused them permission to go to Westport, but have generously provided them with a marquio. -It is understood that the College Governors did not wish to see the boys deprived of their annual outing, and have therefore given them substantial assistance.
