THE FLORAL FETE PROPOSALS.
To the Editor or " The Eve_i_o Mail.' Sir,— ln reply to your correspondenl " Townsman," I think he is hardly just to our tennis players who were uufortuu ate in having 3nch miserable weather for the Floral Kte on Wednesday last, and who only carried out the programme it deference to the wishes of the exhibitors I and public, instead of deferring the fete. If reference is made to your files about the beginning of the year, it will be found that'the N.Z. Tennis Championship Tournament was held here at that time, and in additiou to some eighty players many hundreds of visitors were attracted to Nelson by that display. As each visitor spent money here, there is little doubt that a sum of .£3OO to .£4OO was circulated among the hotelkeepers, boarding houses and business people generally. Many of the visitors expressed themselves so pleased with all the arrangements, etc., that it was proposed to make Nelson the permanent Tournament ground for tennis. If therefore the public of Nelson are wise they will do their best to support tennis clubs and secure the continued attendance of visitors from different parts oi the colony, aud the expenditure of theii cash. I have an idea that the public look more to the value they get for their money than at the object for which any entertainment may be given. I may mention that although the tennis players lost money over the last year's tournament, they paid the loss out of their pockets, and did not complain. I agree with the suggestion to hold another Ute, which will take place at au early date, the profits of which will probably be divided as ' the Editor suggests, betureon tennis and some other worthy object. I am, etc. L. LEVIEN, Hon. Sec. Floral Fete.
