THE BRITISH STRIKES.
[United Press Association.] -ri, a , LONDON, October 25. lhe Amalgamated Society of Engineers have agreed to the holding of a conference, provided the lock-out and strike notices are withdrawn. Mr Barnes, the secretary of the En»*ineers' Society, states that Unionists are likely to have a rough time. A member of the Engineers' Society, who was sent to Kiel, in Germany, to advocate the cause of the strikers, was arrested, and was compelled to leave the town. The boilermakers, who recently struck, have decided to continue the strike until eight hoars ia conceded them, in spite of the decision of fche Boilermakers' Society not to grant them strike pay, because of their refusal to accept a compromise with the employers, by which the 1892 agreement was reverted to. The railway employes have reqnested a reply to their demand for eight hours by November 16th. If their lemand is not conceded it is proposed to refer tha question to arbitration.
