CITY COUNCIL.
The following is a continuation of the report of the proceedings at the meeting of the-City Council yesterday afternoon : Correspondence, From G. F. Smaltbone calling attention to tbe bad state of Tasman-street footpath.—Referred to Works Committee. From Clerk, Waimea County Council, stating that a sub-Committee was appointed to confer wiih Council's subcommittee as to footbridges across the Maitai. - < be Town Clerk to reply. A fortnight's holiday was. granted to the sexton of the Cemetery. Reports. Public Works Committee. The Pulic Works report was read and adopted. The report stated that Mr White's tender had been accepted, and recommended that teacbers be invited for providing seating accommodation at the Park in accordance with the City Sarveyor's plan. Cr I'iper moved that the matter of seating stand over seeing that it was to cost £50. Cr J. A. Harley seconded this. Cr Pipers' motion was carried. Finance Committee. The Finauce Oomniitteu reported recommending that Mr Johnston's offer for rental of the Mariue Baths be accepted. The report was adopted, 'Ihe Water Question. Tho Commiitee appointed to go into the water supply reported tbat they had been unable co arrive at any satisfactory conclusion and referred the matter back to the Council. Cr Lock moved that the question be adjourned to the next ordinal y meetiug of the Council.— Carried. Cr J. A. Harley's notice of motion was similaily adjourned. Ordinary Business. The half-yearly balance was presented and ordered to lie on the cable. Cr Baigent moved that a letter he written thanking Mr H. T. Hatl for the interest he had taken in connection with the erection of the Band rotunda. After a few ronwks it was decided to defer any action in the direction indicated until the rotunda had been formally opened. Ic was explained tbat tbe recently reported openiug of the rotunda had been only on the Band's account. The Council then rose, the Mayor wishing the Counsellors all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, to which they replied : " Same to you !"
