Mr Richmond Hursthouse has definitely decided to stand for Motueka at thc next General Election as n staunch opponent of tho Government, and his election is considered certain. Major Franklyn poses as au Independent, but be is known to liavo had strong leanings for the Government. Mr Roderick McKenzie, the member i'or the Hullor, who finds his chances in that electorate gono, hopes to get in for Motueka on the strength of Takaka, but he will be out of his reckoning, tireat interest is being taken here in the coming contest, and the election will be very keen. It was stated yesterday that if Mr Hurstuou.o did not stand 'Mr O'Connor would come out, and get all the support that would have gone to Mr Hursthouse. Hence Major Franklyn's and Mr Roderick McKenzie"- chances aro in any case remote.
