It was resolved to give a top dressing to the footpath in Trafalgar-street between Messrs iluxton & Cob and Hardy-street. Ur Askew moved that tenders be oulled for the cartage of boulders from the Boulder Bank to tha stone-cruaher, the specification to be referred to the Works Uomiuittee. ienderers should not be restricted in regard to landiflg the boulders. Ci Akeraten said that a notification bad come from the Marine Department preventing the removal of boulders within certain distances (20 chains) of the Lighthouse, and he thought the Counoil would have to go ft long way up for boulders. He noggemed that the Works Committee visit the looality before calling for tenders. Or Boat Bald there was no official notification of the prohibition, and it was strange . that Cr Akeraten should know about it. Tha Mayor said he knew of no official notification on the aubjeot. Cr Bout said that Cr Akersten bad declared some time ago that the removal of . boulders would be prohibited, and now he ' alone knew that the prohibition had been made. - This was significant, and be had expected it all along. If Cr Akeraten was correct, the Coonoil bad bought a stone- " breaker, yet it would have no stones to , break. . . . . Tho motion was carried.
