Independence of Magistrates.

Assurances by Mr Martin, [United Presa Association.] Wellington, This Day. Replying to a valedictory address, Mr Martin, S.M., yesterday, said that as to the independence of tha Bench, they had heard a great deal about the possibility of Government and political interference with the independence of magistrates. He had never, either directly or indirectly, been approached as to the conduct of business, nor had the least attempt been made to influence him.
