STANLEY BROOK.

CONCERT AND DANCE. A very successful concert was given on Wednesday evening, 29th ult., in connection with the opening of the new school, which takes the place of the old building, Ihe new structure is more . up to date in architecture, and it is a credit alike to the contractor, Mr Jas. Robertson, of Nelson, and Mr Stead Ellis, the designer. It has sitting accommodation for between 50 and 60 scholars, but this is no criterion of the number who attended the concert, for the audience packed the building, and each paid Is admission, the amount realised being £7, which is to be devoted to replenishing the library. Mr A. W. Fugle acted as accompanist. The following programme gave ample satisfaction : — A farce, " No i Around the Corner," Mr F. H. Smith and Mr H. Fugle ; Soog, Miss Griffiths, " The Brook" (enoored) ; Song, Miss A. Wilkinson, " Thy Faoe" ; Song, MrH. Fugle, "The Breach of Promise," and, as an encore, " Three Young Cr ws" ; reoita ion, Mrs Watson, <•' The Tollkeeper's Story"; Song, Miss Kate Hanrou, " Harp in the Air" (encored), comio Song, Mr King. " That is Love " ; Song, Mrs Barker, "Will you no come baok"; Reoitation, Miss Watson, "The Lover's Cold"; Song, MissCriohton, " Tbe Jaoket of Blue " ; Bong, Mr H. Fugle, "The Birth of Baint Patrick" ; song Miss A. L. E. Wilkinson, " What are tbe Wild Wave Sayiogj" song, Mr Smith, " A Soldier and a Man ,* " duet, Mr and Mrs Watson, " Married Life ; " concluding with a laughable farce, " Found in a Four- , wheeler,"- in whioh Mr, Mrs, and Miss I Watson, and Mr T. Vercoe took part. The string band under Mr Smith— with the following juniors, C. and F. Fenemor, J. Hanron, A. Barker, and 0. Wilkinson— creditably enlivened the proceedings during the evening. - The entertainment, which was long and varied, did not conclude until 11 o'clock, when a vote of thanks was accorded to those visitors from Nelson who kindly gave their services. The audience, rising, then sang the National Anthem, having spent an enjoyable evening. Great credit is duo to all, not forgetting the ladies, who worked hard and planned well for a large and appreciative audience. Dancing was kept up till daylight.
