Empty benches, inattention, and the bored air of the few members present fiave the no-confidence debate in the House of Represeutatives a lifeless appearance yesterday. There were no startling speeches, the chief efforts of the sitting undoubtedly being that of the Minister of Lands, who excelled himself and made the best-tempered speech heard from him for some time. Mr Duthie's speech came next, bnt while containing many good points it was too full of figures to be m ■ ereating. 0 ther Speakers generally retraced old arguments, but save for the occupants of the galleries, they for the moat part fell on deaf ears. - [United Press Association.] Wellington. This Day. Mr Crowther and Mr McLacblari also spoke, and the debate was adjourned. The House rose at 1 a.m.
