THE CITY CLUB.

ACTIONS FOR STEWARD'S WAGES.

-he civil action. Langley v. Nelson City Olub, a claim of £15 for wages as steward, was oalled on again to-day at the Magistrate's Court. The following were joined as defendants to (he aotion:— John Pollock, Franois Trask, W. 0. Riley, G. M. Rout, C. J. Harley, W. Fiett, J. C. Meroer, K. Johns, W. R. Walker, A. W. Tatton, R. Hunter, R. B. Jackson, G. M. Simpson, A. B. Giblin, R. W..W. Kingdon, E. Everett, and R. Wainhouse. The foregoing names were joined as defendants on the application of Mr Maginnity. Mr Pitt, for the plaintiff, said that the claim was admitted by Messrs J. Shields and _. Baigent, and also by Messrs S. Kirkpatriek, J. Scott, C. Morton, and E. Bisley, who had previously been joined as defendants to the aotion. Mr Pitt therefore asked for judgment against all those who had admitted the claim, Mr Maginnity said that those defendents for whom he appeared only admitted their liability with otbers. Mr Harley said that if judgment was given against five or six of the defendants it would be quite impossible for them to get the proportion of liability from the other members of the olub, Mr Maginnity agreed with the views taken by Mr Harley, and asked that the case ba adjourned to enable tbe evidence of one of the defendents (Mr Kirkpatriek), who was away in Blenheim, to be produced. Mr Pitt said it would be a hardship to the plaintiff if the case was again adjourned, as it had already been adjourned five times. His Worship pointed out that if he gave judgment as asked it wonld only make each defendant liable to execution .for the whole amount, and if any ono defendant satisfied the judgment, then it would remain with the others to settle their contribution. After some further argument the Court, without giving formal judgment, assessed lhe claim at £15 and costs amounting to £3. Mr Maginnity and Mr Harley thereupon undertook to pay that amount to the plaintiff within a fortnight. It was made an understanding that any further Court proceetfings would be at the expense of the defendants, The case was on this understanding adjourned to 30th Juue, aud in the meantime Mr Kirkpatrick'evidence will be produced, and steps taken to have all defendants properly joined.
